Liam Baker can see things. Dead people like to visit him and tell them how they were wronged. Some might call it a gift, other’s a curse. But either way this ability makes him useful to Los Angeles homicide detective Kimball Thompson.

Some madman is slitting the throats of young male prostitutes and then dumping their bodies in the desert with vague clues of pink feathers and the number five. Usually Liam can talk to the spirits of the dead. But someone is blocking him. Someone is taunting him.

The case is rapidly deteriorating into a violent, psychic pissing contest and Liam can’t see far enough ahead to figure out who wins or who dies.

This is my first read from this author. I've read a few takes within m/m fiction that feature psychic detectives and found the take here bringing in some new elements, for examples in the way's his talent is a bit more limited allowing for tension needed for me to stay interested, and also leaving unanswered questions about main characters talent, which I hope will develop in future books. I liked the way the main characters imperfections were narrated, they were left without the usual hard luck rationalizations. I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to graphic violence especially torture and though these topics are brought up, and it was required for the plot, it was not done in an overboard manner, so I did not have to put down the book for a week, a month, or ever, like I've had to with some other books, instead, the bare bones were sketched enough to paint the picture without disturbing the flow of the story or my little heart. This author effortlessly drew me through the story so that I did not put the book down till it was done. Dear author, please write book 2 book 3 etc.

Shadow Edge Psychic Detective Mysteries edition by SC Wynne Romance eBooks Reviews

I love a good ghost mystery. Nothing obvious to me in this read, so watching the plot unravel was thrilling. There's a little romance, yes, but nothing heavy on the sexual side. Just an all-around good storyline.
Enough police procedure to make it gritty, great antagonist and protagonist, dialogue, plot, setting, pacing psychic powers; this one has everything needed to make a compelling read. I would have liked a bit of an explanation as to where and how the psychics got their talents, but that want did not detract much from my enjoyment. I hope there are more stories with these characters.
I've been reading S.C. Wynne's books since her first release and she just keeps getting better and better. Shadow's Edge was a fun, thrilling ride, with well-developed characters, suspense, the mysterious, and mystery. I will avoid spoilers but what I can say is that I enjoyed this book from the first page to the last and it now ranks in the top tier of my ever-growing S.C. Wynne collection. I cannot wait to read her release in this series, as it is a natural for series fiction.
Main characters...A psychic working with the police, as they attempt to stop a serial killer, who is struggling to get past the loss of his own lover. His partner, who is a close friend of his late lover.

Pink feathers and notes found on the victims bodies are clues...but what do they mean? Why is the psychic no longer able to pick up clues from the newly deceased?

A wonderfully romantic suspense by S.C. Wynne. I recommend this book if you love strong, sensitive men who fight for the rights of others...and love.
S.C. Wynne writes a good story. This is a fairly gruesome tale, if familiar in the world of detective fiction. Psychic Liam Baker works as a consultant to the LAPD, helping out detective Kimball Thompson—known mostly as Thompson throughout the book. Young male hustlers with slit throats are turning up, and Liam’s gift helps him speak to the spirits of the victims. The complication here is that Liam’s beloved William was a close friend of Thompson’s, and a cop as well. William is dead, and Liam is channeling his grief through his work with Thompson.

The murder mystery is filled with tension, and so is the relationship between Liam and Thompson. Liam is faced with two challenges find the killer before it’s too late, and confront his own emotions before they destroy his life.

A page-turner that intrigued me enough that I’ve already gotten book 2 in the series.
3.5

This fast-paced, easy read is a solid start to a series. The story follows Liam, a psychic whose main ability is to communicate with “murdered souls” and starts with victim number three of a serial killer case. Liam has wrapped himself in his grief after the death of his partner, William 9 months before, and for the past 3 months has been using his work as a consultant with Detective Kimball Thompson as a lifeline.

The romance between Liam and Thompson has an interesting evolution. Thompson has feelings for Liam, but when Liam admits that he is content to hold onto his grief, Kimball decides he needs to move on and begins dating someone else. When Liam is forced to confront why this bothers him so much, he begins to open up to the idea of moving on. Liam reluctantly coming to terms with having feelings for Thompson was handled well, until the end, which jumped a bit abruptly into love IMO.

As for the serial killer storyline, it was an interesting concept and the killer having powers that could counteract Liam’s was interesting, but the resolution was a bit of a letdown. For all the buildup with the killer’s MO and his abilities, I guess I was expecting a bit more from the final confrontation and the killer’s motive than the standard.
However, it was an enjoyable story and Kale Williams does an excellent job with the narration; I look forward to reading the next in the series.

I voluntarily reviewed an audiobook copy of this book.
I REALLY enjoyed this book. It could be a little longer -- in particular, the villain's story could have used some more exposition. There could also be some more backstory to the two main characters, but I'm hoping that's just a sign that there's a sequel somewhere.

Which I will immediately buy. To the author -- if you read these reviews, I hope you take my comments as constructive criticisms somewhat hesitantly offered, because I am a pretty picky reader and I am really glad you wrote this. You got me emotionally invested in both of the main characters, so please keep writing?

And thanks.
